순순히 어두운 밤을 받아들이지 말라

노년은 날이 저물어감에 열 내고 몸부림쳐야 한다

빛이 꺼져감에 분노하고 또 분노하라

 

지혜로운 자들은 마지막에 이르러서야 어둠이 지당함을 알지만

그들의 이야기는 더 이상 번개처럼 번쩍이지 않기에

순순히 어두운 밤을 받아들이지 말라

 

선한 자들은 마지막 파도가 지난 후 그 덧없는 행적들이

푸른 바닷가에서 얼마나 빛나게 춤추었을지 한탄하며

빛이 꺼져감에 분노하고 또 분노하라

 

달아나는 해를 붙잡고 노래한 사나운 자들은

섭섭히 해를 보내준 걸 뒤늦게 알고

순순히 어두운 밤을 받아들이지 말라

 

죽음이 가까운 심각한 이들은

눈멀게 하는 시각으로,

멀은 눈도 유성처럼 불타고 명랑할 수 있음을 깨닫고

빛이 꺼져감에 분노하고 또 분노하라

 

그리고 당신, 저 슬픔의 높이에 있는 내 아버지

이제 당신의 성난 눈물로 나를 저주하고 축복하길
